Alfons Maria Mucha (July 24, 1860 Ivančice - July 14, 1939 Prague) was a Czech painter, graphic artist and designer of the Art Nouveau period.
Mucha's style was greatly influenced by symbolism, social aspects of the Arts and Crafts movement and the development of design in England. He tried to make the beauty of art accessible to all social classes and to emphasize symbols and decorative elements in his works. He developed his own aesthetic ideals and an original style that is now known as the "Mucha style". His works are characterized by the depiction of the ideals of female beauty, Mucha often depicted them in obscure neoclassical robes surrounded by flowers that sometimes formed inner circles above their heads. The use of pale pastel colors is also characteristic.
